New Writing Development Week is an annual event held in The New Theatre. The programme seeks fresh voices, original ideas and engaging themes. Selected writers get an opportunity to showcase their play in the form of a staged reading.

Rachel Thornton’s original play, “Magical Girls”, was one of four plays selected by the theatre to be performed.

“In a bubble-gum, comic-book Dublin, magical girl Maggie go Bragh has inherited her late mother Erin’s destiny of defending Ireland from dark magical forces…and she’s absolutely terrible at it.

When a dire prophecy threatens everything she loves, Maggie and her wisecracking cat Jinx must uncover Erin’s past through the memories of her old foes.”
