MAGICAL GIRLS: Staged Reading
WRITTEN BY RACHEL THORNTON
DIRECTED BY PRAISE TITUS
Performed during The New Theatre’s New Writing Development Week
This staged reading of Rachel Thornton’s original play, “Magical Girls”, formed part of The New Theatre’s New Writing Week.
”In a bubble-gum, comic-book Dublin, magical girl Maggie go Bragh has inherited her late mother Erin’s destiny of defending Ireland from dark magical forces…and she’s absolutely terrible at it.
When a dire prophecy threatens everything she loves, Maggie and her wisecracking cat Jinx must uncover Erin’s past through the memories of her old foes.”
“Magical Girls” was first performed by UCD DramSoc. It was submitted to The Irish Society Drama Awards 2023, where it secured seven nominations and won “Best Original Writing” and “Best Supporting Actor”.
